Sl-oat Meal

Standard

We discovered two amazing things this year: steel cut oats cook really well in our rice cooker, and our rice cooker has a timer function that allows us to set everything up before we go to sleep and then kicks on in the middle of the night and presents us with steaming hot ready to eat mush in the morning. This is not a fast way to make oat meal. It’s slow-t meal.  Hehehe.

The general recipe is 1:4 oat to water ratio with a dash of salt, but I like to add all sorts of things.

My current favorite is adding a scoop of pumpkin puree,  some maple syrup, and some cinnamon.

other additives: fresh or dried apples, pears, vanilla, honey, cashews, almonds (I prefer unsalted nuts), dried fruits, whatever I have on hand.  I might try it with cocoa powder one of these days. Hmmm. Today, actually. Like, as soon as I finish this blog post. Yes.
